Hi, Robin! Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your personal experience with all of us. I know you were responding to me on this article, but I feel like your openness and vulnerability are genuinely appreciated by many.
Transitioning to a new company or into a new career is crazy challenging in itself, and dealing with personal matters simultaneously can amplify feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy. Everyone, at some point in their career, has faced moments where they questioned their worth. You're not alone in this journey and I know many reading this can relate.
It's heartening to hear that despite the challenges, you've received positive feedback from your colleagues. Let those moments of recognition be a subtle positive nudge, a reminder that your value isn't diminished by temporary setbacks or distractions. You bring a unique perspective and skillset to the table, and your potential contributions to the company and team extend far beyond the initial few months.
I'm a UX Designer and work daily alongside product managers, other designers, and most definitely software engineers/developers; your level of expertise extends far beyond the discipline of programming and into the products you develop, and ultimately into the hands of the people for who you develop things for.
With time, I believe the mental "bubble" you mentioned (which is a fantastic way to put it!) will start to fade. Anchor yourself to what makes you indispensable.
Thank you once again for sharing your story with all of us. You've helped more than you know!
